Look at the Total Cost
When many people think about low cost motoring and how they can use their car to get the cheapest way from one place to another, many people automatically think that going out and buying the cheapest car possible will solve all their problems. But that is not how it works.
The price of the actual vehicle is just a small part of the total price of using your car and there are many others factors you will need to take into account.
Insurance is one. There is absolutely no point in buying the cheapest car on the forecourt if the insurance is sky-high on that particular model.
Petrol or diesel costs are another – it may be worth paying more up front for a more expensive but fuel efficient car, as you may recover your initial cost quickly, especially if you usually cover a lot of miles. Do your sums!
Then there are the hidden costs such as car repair. An old clapped our car may be cheap now, but it will not be in the long run, both in labour and parts. Then there is recovery insurance which may be much higher for an old vehicle - if they will insure at all.
Be smart and think of every little cost that might go into running your car and you will realise that the initial cost is not as important as you thought.
